Saturday afternoon the 29th of Febuary it was time for our little world trip to Groningen with 10 enthusiastic Débaldérin members. We decided the trip was too long for just a tournament, so we went for some bowling and pizza beforehand. During bowling we fanatically rolled some balls resulting in many strikes. After this, a short tour through Groningen brought us to an Italian restaurant. Everyone found something they enjoyed after browsing the menu with 90! pizzas. After this it was time for the highlight of the evening, the Mickey Mouse dessert Jurren and Fons ordered, which ended up not looking exactly like the menu picture (see the tournament photos). After this it was time to go to the tournament. Luckily we could inflate our air mattresses right away. After we made the finishing touches to our outfit (long train treavels are very useful for making outfits), we could go to the party. With the theme ‘finding treasures’ we decided to dress up as Swiper from Dora the Explorer. Petra was appointed as the tournament noob (of course the Veluwecup doesn’t really take your noob label away from you), so she had to babysit Debbie. After an hour it became crowded, and many beers were had. Around 2.30 the first people headed back, the long day was tiring after all. AFter a couple hours of sleep, we were woken up at 7.45 for a luxurious breakfast before our matches started. We started out great and won our first match! We played a lot better than last tournament with 1 win, 1 tie and although the others were lost they were very tense. Another highlight: Elke and Linde scored a goal at a tournament for the first time. The ladies also joined some matches with Vakgericht, who made it to the semifinals which was played by ML and Eline against Paal Centraal. Because of our good games we were sure we didn’t make it to last place this tournament. Well guess what? We did make it to last place, but we didn’t let it get us down. After that, it was time to travel home again, which most people did asleep. This time we said goodbye to Heleen for real (have fun in New Zealand!)
