This week marked the first match in the double-header against Hemur Enge. Along with the following game against DKOD, those might well be the most important games of the season, as these two teams seem to be the strongest opponents in the pool. The starting lineup featured Deen, Kamiel, Marieke, and Nathalie in attack, with Bart S, Tom, Willemijn, and Tirza in defense.

Yes, you read that right—Kamiel was finally back on the field, and this time not as a referee. After struggling with injuries for quite some time, it was finally time for him to make his debut for Débaldérin 1. Despite this new lineup, the team played some solid korfbal. It was clear, however, that Kamiel needed some time to adjust, as a few of his shots missed the korf entirely. Still, Deen quickly opened the scoring, followed by a running-in shot from Kamiel, and Tom added a long shot to put us 3-0 ahead.

Hemur Enge then decided to join the scoring party, bringing the score to 3-2. Kamiel wasn’t having it and responded with a beautiful long shot but gave away a point shortly after by unnecessarily allowing his opponent to shoot.

After this exchange of points, it was time for Kamiel to be substituted (as agreed beforehand with the physiotherapist for 15 minutes of playing time). Unfortunately, Matthijs was unable to play (shoulder injury), but luckily Bart M was willing to step in. Bart M made good use of his 15 minutes before halftime, scoring twice. Goals from Bart S, Marieke, Nathalie, and Tom brought the halftime score to an impressive 11-5.

At halftime, Willemijn was replaced by Lara. Nathalie decided to start the scoring again with a short shot. Bart S gave away a running-in shot but immediately made up for it with a long shot of his own. Lara added another long shot, making the score 14-6.

With this score and only fifteen minutes left, Nathalie earned a penalty. What do you do in that situation? It would take something extraordinary to lose such a lead. But no, Nathalie decided to score the penalty anyway. (Nathalie, next time, bitterballen are fine at that score too!) After another long shot from Bart M (16-6), Débaldérin’s scoring spree came to an end, but Hemur Enge wasn’t done yet. Nathalie’s opponent scored a running-in shot and an underhanded shot, bringing the score to 16-8.

With this score, and the game nearly over, Tom seemed to think the match had already ended. He stopped defending his opponent, allowing the easiest running-in shot of the game. Oh dear, oh dear. Ask him what exactly happened there because I wasn’t really paying attention anymore either. All in all, it was a great game.

After the shower, however, there was a bit of a letdown—the sports pub was closed. I find this unacceptable and hope Timo can sort this out better next time. But here’s a question: Did Nathalie have prior knowledge of the pub’s limited opening hours? Hemur Enge shared our disappointment, but it’s nice to see that, after a match like this, we can still agree on something. See you next week!

Goals; Bart M 3, Bart S 3, Deen, Kamiel 2, Lara, Nathalie 3, Marieke, and Tom 2
