On Wednesday, November 20, we had an exciting away game scheduled against KV Zetten. Not just any game, but my very first one, and I had the honor of writing the match report right away! The evening started with a cozy pancake dinner at Haarweg, thanks to our host Bart. From there, most of us hopped into cars to begin our long journey, but unfortunately, we were one seat short. Jelmer and Bart bravely volunteered to face the cold weather and ride their bikes instead.
The match started quickly with several beautiful goals, including a particularly impressive penalty shot by newcomer Stef. Five minutes later, he scored another goal with a precise shot. What an incredible start to Stef’s Débaldérin career! However, our attacks were somewhat sluggish and took longer than expected. Despite creating plenty of chances, the goals just wouldn’t come. This resulted in a relatively low and tense halftime score of 5-5.
After halftime, and encouraged by coach Reinier to aim for closer shots, we began the second half full of energy. Although it started with a goal against us, the goals on our side finally started to come. I even managed to score my first goal for Débaldérin! In the last quarter, Jelmer’s injury briefly raised concerns about whether the Zetten curse would strike again, but after a few minutes on the sideline, he returned to the field and scored immediately. In the end, we won the game 8-14—a great score to conclude my first match.
