Débaldérin warms up against Skunk

By Wednesday, September 2, the summer break had already been over for two days. With the competition starting on Saturday, it was high time for our first friendly match of the season. The weekend team formed the basis of the squad, but the match would not have been possible without our substitutes!

Everyone arrived at around 7:15 PM, although we had forgotten to mention that the field would still be in use until 7:30 PM. So, our pre-match team talk took place next to the pétanque court instead. By then, Skunk had also arrived, and we could finally start shooting and warming up for this student derby.

Luckily, we had managed to find a referee from KVW to officiate the match, so we were ready to get started. Reinier, Deen, Nathalie and Lotte started in attack, while Tom, Bart, Lara and Marieke started in defence. Maureen, Ella, Kamiel and first-year Gijs started on the bench.

We started the match strongly, with Reinier scoring the opening goal. Unfortunately, we were still a little slow to get going, allowing Skunk to score and take a 1–4 lead. Luckily, we soon found our rhythm. Thanks to goals from Nathalie, Tom, Deen, Maureen and Lara, we went into half-time with a 9–6 lead.

At half-time, the conclusion was that we were playing well, although there were still plenty of chances that we could have converted. Full of confidence, we started the second half and simply continued where we had left off: scoring goals! Bart, Gijs, Tom, Lara, Marieke, Maureen, Nathalie and Reinier all managed to find the korf in the second half. Skunk also scored a few more goals, but in the end we secured a 19–12 victory!

A great start to the outdoor season, and hopefully we can keep these good results going!
