Match Report: DOT Oss 5 – Débaldérin 1

Saturday, April 4

Saturday, April 4 marked the first outdoor match of 2026. Our flagship team had an early start in Oss. The sun shone pleasantly through the clouds, so the thermal shirts stayed in our bags. At 10:50 a.m., the starting signal sounded.

DOT began strongly and quickly took a 1–0 lead, but they didn’t enjoy it for long as Deen promptly equalized with a long-range shot. Lara soon responded to a running-in goal by the opponent. Reinier surprised everyone with a well-executed fadeaway, putting Débaldérin ahead for the first time (2–3). Kamiel and his opponent exchanged two impressive long-distance shots, and after another goal by DOT, it became clear that both our attack and defense were struggling with the opponent’s tall players. This resulted in several goals for DOT, giving them a small lead (7–4).

Kamiel responded immediately after a fine move and an unfortunate slip by his opponent. Following a well-worked attack finished by Nathalie, Kamiel could not prevent his opponent from scoring again, bringing the halftime score to 8–6.

After the break, Sara—who had come on as a substitute—started strongly, scoring both a long-range shot and a short chance to level the score at 8–8. After Reinier both scored and conceded, Débaldérin 1 began to build a small lead through goals from Lara, Nathalie, and Deen (10–12). Still, the match remained tense. DOT scored from distance, after which Bart—as always—showed he could do the same.

Lara delivered a strong defensive block, but play continued, and DOT eventually made it 12–13 with another long shot. Débaldérin seemed ready to push on after a beautiful pass from Nathalie to Willemijn, who attempted a running-in shot. However, Willemijn appeared to be impeded from behind, but no penalty was awarded.

DOT quickly equalized at 13–13 with about five minutes left on the clock. Sara responded with a splendid long-range shot to restore the lead at 13–14 with three minutes remaining. Despite the tension, Débaldérin’s defense held firm in the closing stages, and DOT failed to break through again. After a rebound by Reinier just before time, Lara sealed the victory with a long-range shot moments before the final whistle.

Final score: 13–15.

Keizer Karel/Noviomagum MW2 – Débaldérin MW1

Wednesday, April 8

On Wednesday, April 8, the first midweek match of the outdoor season was played. We traveled to Nijmegen, but not before Marieke and Willemijn treated us to pancakes. After enjoying a delicious meal on the Haarweg, we departed for Nijmegen.

Upon arriving at Keizer Karel, we briefly searched for the key to the changing rooms but were soon able to enter. Meanwhile, Keizer Karel had attempted to lay out a relatively level field, allowing us to get used to the grass and warm up.

After a proper warm-up—and once we had grown accustomed to the grass and the yellow-and-blue balls—the match began. It was decided to play two halves of 25 minutes.

Starting Line-up:

Attack: Kamiel, Lara (H), Nathalie, Tirza

Defense: Bart, Daniël, Ella, Lotte

Deen and Marieke started as substitutes. From the sidelines, they watched Bart concede an early running-in goal, proving he was not entirely awake yet.

Fortunately, Kamiel quickly restored balance by intercepting a ball and being knocked over by his opponent. The resulting penalty was successfully converted: 1–1. When Bart’s section moved to attack and play stalled momentarily, Bart decided to take a long-range shot from eight meters—and scored, putting Débaldérin ahead.

The lead didn’t last long, as Kamiel conceded a goal (2–2), but he soon restored the advantage with a shot of his own. To keep the pattern going, Bart “allowed” his opponent to score—though in reality the shot came from about nine meters while he was dropping back to block the pass.

Lotte then scored from distance to make it 3–4. Having found her rhythm, she added another goal, extending the lead to 3–5. Both teams continued to score, bringing the score to 6–8.

While defending, Kamiel knocked the ball from a Keizer Karel player’s hands during a rebound. The referee correctly awarded a penalty, though confusion arose over who should take it. After a brief discussion, it was determined that the penalty should be taken by Kamiel’s unmarked opponent. The player confidently claimed he never missed—and proved it right: 7–8.

With the margin reduced to one goal, it was crucial not to lose focus. Lotte scored once more from distance, and Kamiel added a short chance from close range, making it 7–10. Keizer Karel managed to score once more before the final whistle, but the points ultimately traveled back to Wageningen.

After Reinier reviewed the match, Tirza surprised everyone with a bag of chips in celebration of her birthday—congratulations once again! Bart and Kamiel decided that chips require beer, so they headed to the canteen before showering. Although the card machine wasn’t working, they were allowed to take the beers to the showers and pay afterward. Whatever could be said about the state of the facilities, the showers had warm, adjustable water, good pressure, and even a shelf for beer and chips—making it a surprisingly pleasant experience.

Following a brief debate about bringing a gift back to Tom’s corridor at Hoevestein (which unfortunately didn’t fit in the car), we settled the bill and returned to Wageningen.

The next match of Débaldérin MW1 will take place on April 15 in Nijmegen against De Hazenkamp—so sign up on the website!
