Saturday, April 11 marked the first home match of the outdoor season, played against Hazenkamp 2. The game started nice and early again at 10:50, with plenty of sunshine but also quite a bit of wind.
It quickly became clear that Hazenkamp’s division of players across the two sections wasn’t entirely balanced. Their first attacking unit had both their strongest male and female players, which led to an early goal. The other section was a bit easier to defend against, allowing Nathalie to quickly score the equalizer. After that, the game stayed close, with goals from Nathalie, Sara, and Bart, but unfortunately we still went into halftime trailing.
After some lemonade, we came back determined to win, and the score was leveled again thanks to four goals from Marieke, Willemijn, Lara, and Kamiel. Unfortunately, the opponents kept scoring as well, and my own shots just wouldn’t go in. In the end, it resulted in a narrow 9–10 loss.
After the match, we watched the semifinals on the Haarweg. DVO lost at home to LDO, proving that home advantage doesn’t always mean everything. So next time, we’ll just take the win in the away match against Hazenkamp.
