About a week ago (to the great dismay of our match secretary), the weekend team traveled to Tiel for a match with high stakes — the championship. If we managed to win, we would likely end up as shared champions.

We started the game with Reinier, Tom, Inge, and Evi in attack. Despite many good chances, they just couldn’t get the ball through the hoop for a long time. Fortunately, our defense held strong for quite a while as well. The score was finally opened by Tom, who converted a penalty. Tiel immediately responded with a goal of their own, and by halftime we were trailing 3–2.

In the second half, Bart M came in for Tom, and the ladies’ section went through some changes too — after a division swap, Willemijn replaced Inge. We began the second half poorly and fell behind 5–2, but from 7–5 onwards we started fighting our way back into the game. It became 7–7, and thanks to Nathalie we even took the lead at 7–8. Unfortunately, we couldn’t hold onto it, and the match ended in 8–8. With that, we can put our championship hopes to rest.
