Yes, the first home match of the season has been played by the midweek team. Our opponents came all the way from Oss for this match, and Marie Louise even came all the way from Belfast.
At first glance, the opponents looked solid. No overly tall men at least. Still, the first few minutes were quiet: lots of shots, but nothing went in. Until Anne scored the first goal. Then things started rolling. Not long after, Ella put in a nice goal. Anne made a move inside, both defenders followed her, leaving Ella completely free to finish it off. Jelmer then added another point with a beautiful volley. Along with goals from Marloes and Tom, Débaldérin ran up the score to 5–0. Just before halftime, the score tightened to 5–3. Reinier felt we were playing well, that our lead was deserved, and that we could easily score 10 more goals. With that mindset, we started the second half.
ML, Kamiel, Bart, and Deen scored 5 goals between them, making it 10–3. Somewhere in between, Deen also managed to lose a contact lens—how that happened, no one quite knows. The opponents managed to score two nice goals after that, but Débaldérin wasn’t shaken. Before the end, Marloes, Jelmer, and Deen showed off their shooting skills once more, closing the match at 14–5. Just one goal short of Reinier’s goal, but still a fantastic score!
