You were still owed a match report from a few weeks ago. On April 19, Débaldérin 1 got to play its very first home game on our very own korfball field, against Nova 3 from Bilthoven. The weather that day was nice—not quite as beautifully sunny as it was yesterday and today, but still pleasantly warm, a bit cloudy, and even a little muggy. The 4:00 PM game time didn’t exactly help with that.
Slowly, the korfball students trickled into the korfball cage. Eventually, the opponents arrived as well, so we could get started. Nice weather, two teams, and a referee who seemed eager to get going—everything was in place. What could possibly stand in the way of a good match?
Unfortunately, the ingredients didn’t quite mix well, and after this first warm spring day, they weren’t exactly fresh anymore. Up until 3–3 the game was still evenly matched, but after that, Débaldérin quickly pulled ahead. Nova struggled with the boundaries and officiating style set by referee Kamiel, and Débaldérin apparently responded to that suboptimally as well. After halftime, Nova’s resistance weakened more and more, and although Débaldérin occasionally managed to put together a good attack, they seemed quite content with how things were going.
Final score: 16–9
Scorers for DBD (according to the book):
Tom (5), Reinier (5), Lara (2), Matthijs (2), Tirza (2), Willemijn (1)
LOOKING AHEAD!!!
In the spring competition, Débaldérin only plays each opponent once. The next match is scheduled for May 10 due to the civilized concept of the “May vacation.” Unfortunately, it’ll be in Houten, and the A12 will be closed, so the starting time is still under negotiation. We’re hoping for a fun game. After that, Débaldérin has a Paris-free weekend and won’t play at home again until May 24. Then, early in the morning, it’s time for the “Mansholtlaan Derby” against our northern neighbors from Bennekom.
